Amazon WishlistMrs. Dursin is excited to join Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in the fall of 2011 as a third grade teacher. She is a thirteen year veteran of the Providence school system and previously taught at Windmill Elementary School. Mrs. Dursin is happily married and the proud mother of three wonderful grown children. After working as an RN while her children were young, Mrs. Dursin returned to school to pursue her Masters Degree in Education, fulfilling her lifelong dream to teach. She continues to enjoy taking classes and workshops to remain current in her profession. In her spare time, Mrs. Dursin loves spending time with family and friends, enjoys fitness and sports activities, skiing, travel, current events, and her pet Bichon pup, Ellie. Mrs. Dursin works very hard to help each student reach his/her full potential. She especially enjoys getting to know each of her students and their families. She can be found in Room 11 and looks forward to becoming an active member of the MLK school community and to meeting everyone!

Kerri Luffborough Ms. Kerri Luffborough

Teacher Wish ListMs. Luffborough has a Masters of Education from Worcester State College. She also graduated from URI with a BA in Education. Ms. Luffborough joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in 2004 and has taught in Providence since 2000. Before coming to Providence she taught in Worcester, MA. Ms. Luffborough is currently teaching 3rd grade, having previously taught 5th and 6th at King Elementary. She loves seeing the progression of the students from the beginning to the end of the year.

Monica Paige Ms. Monica Paige

Ms. Paige joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in 2009 as a kindergarten teacher, and currently teaches third grade. Ms. Paige loves to offer a colorful, rigorous, rich print environment where she motivates her students to strive for their best, believing that you can do anything you set your mind to. Ms. Paige sends home a weekly communication log and progress report, keeping parents well informed and giving students a clear understanding of objectives and grade level expectations.

Ms. Paige enjoys integrating the arts of singing, dancing, drawing, and history into Reading, Math and Science Lessons. She also works with students to build character, organization and leadership skills as students move in small group center and whole group activities. Assessing their needs and talents, she ensures that students have a well-rounded experience in her classroom, where they display their work and perform in culminating activities in a meaningful and memorable way.

Ms. Paige is a graduate of Rhode Island College, University of RI, Boston Christian Academy, Classical High School and has studied abroad in Mexico. A certified principal, an elementary/middle school teacher, an adult ESL teacher, and a minister, Ms. Paige holds a Masters of Education in Administration, a Bachelors in Communications/Theatre-Education with a Spanish minor. A life-long learner and educator, Ms. Paige is a veteran of the Providence School Department where she has served as a bilingual and regular education teacher, a Math Coach, and an Aspiring Principal, and a host of committees since 1996.

Ms. Paige has the distinction of serving as the first College student to serve on The RI Board of Governors of Higher Education where she advocated for equal opportunity for everyone and more. Just as she encourages her students, Ms. Paige and the Paige Family are active community leaders.

Jennifer Whitehead Mrs. Jennifer Whitehead

Amazon WishlistMrs. Whitehead joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in the fall of 2011 as a third grade teacher. She is a graduate of Salve Regina University, Manhattanville University and Providence College. Prior to coming to King Elementary she taught for 16 years, in Meriden, CT; Greenwich, CT and Providence, RI. Mrs. Whitehead has been a Reading Coach in Providence since 2001 and has National Board Certification in Literacy / Language Arts and a Reading Consultant / Specialist Certification as well. She has taught grades: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8. She loves to spend time with her family, read, write, run, swim, bike and enjoy the outdoors!

Little known facts: Mrs. Whitehead’s dad is one of 15 children, two of which are Catholic Nuns! Mrs. Whitehead traveled to China to teach English for a whole summer! Mrs. Whitehead tap danced for 15 years!! Can anyone else do a “Coffee Grinder?” Just ask Mrs. Whitehead to show you ☺!
